guest:Ziad Abou Saleh, read by: Ewa Skibińska

For many it seems unbelievable: seven years have passed since the beginning of protests against Bashar al-Assad and the subsequent events which have totally changed Syria, its neighbouring countries, as well as the European continent. Samar Yazbek gives voice to ordinary people from this country torn by civil war, those looking for normality amidst the hopelessness and striving to survive in hell. Is it possible to understand this war, at least to some extent, if the experiences of others – especially such brutal ones – are impossible to convey?

Samar Yazbek is an esteemed Syrian journalist, reporter and activist engaged in, among other things, helping women in northern Syria. She left her home country in 2012. The Crossing is one of the most important books on Syria translated in Poland.

The guest of the meeting will be Ziad Abou Salah, PhD – a Syrian who has lived in Wroclaw for over 30 years. Sociologist and lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities SWPS. Expert in Polish-Arab dialogue and negotiations. Author of W poszukiwaniu piątego kąta, czyli obcokrajowcy o Polakach published in 1995.
